What can you do during your stay at camping Le Calatrin?

Situated on the shores of the sublime Lac de Paladru, Le Calatrin campsite is the ideal base for exploring a region rich in natural landscapes, outdoor activities and cultural discoveries. Whether you’re a hiking enthusiast, a lover of the great outdoors, a history buff or just looking to relax and unwind with the family, you’ll find what you’re looking for in the surrounding area.

Lac de Paladru: A local jewel with turquoise waters

A must-see in the area: it’s impossible to stay at the campsite without enjoying the superb Lac de Paladru, known as the ‘Blue Lake’! With crystal-clear waters that can reach 25 degrees on a hot summer’s day, it’s perfect for swimming, paddle-boarding or even a kayak trip for water sports enthusiasts. Unique moments to share with the whole family, in a picture-postcard setting (just be careful not to get your camera wet). Nature lovers can also stroll along the footpaths that border the lake and admire the rich local flora and fauna. One thing’s for sure, you can take your time to breathe here!

Walks and hikes in the heart of nature

To recharge your batteries without having to go far from the campsite, there’s nothing like a day out in the great outdoors. Whether you’re the kind of person who likes to wander the trails in trainers or a lover of colourful panoramas, the area around Paladru offers a multitude of walks suitable for all levels, ideal for the whole family. Special mention should be made of the Tour du Lac loop, which allows you to enjoy a landscape that changes with the seasons. The more adventurous can climb to the top of the Paladru hills for an exceptional view. So don’t forget your hiking boots and get out there and discover the trails!

Paladru is also a neo-political story!

For something different just a stone’s throw from the campsite, head to the heart of local history! Visit the Paladru Archaeological Museum. This submerged prehistoric site tells the story of the first inhabitants of the region, more than 5,000 years ago! A plunge into the past, without a time machine. Authentic collections and fun workshops to keep the whole family occupied.

A step back in history: welcome to Château de Virieu...

For lovers of old stones, the Château de Virieu, located around ten kilometres from the campsite, will also appeal to everyone, with its gardens and impressive architecture. No ghosts, just beautiful stones, I promise! This magnificent fortified building, dating from the 11th century, has survived the centuries without (almost) a wrinkle. During a guided tour, you’ll discover some fascinating anecdotes about the life of the lords of the time. And for the youngsters (or the older children), medieval activities are organised on a regular basis. A real step back in time…

The Chartreuse Regional Nature Park: Immerse yourself in nature

Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, take a break in the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park, a paradise for hikers, the curious and lovers of wide open spaces. Imagine deep forests, majestic peaks and fascinating biodiversity. Here, every trail is an invitation to adventure, whether on foot, mountain bike or even paraglider for the more adventurous! And because the Chartreuse is not just about mountains, it’s also about an exceptional heritage, so don’t miss the Grande Chartreuse, an impressive monastery nestling in the heart of the massif, where you can visit the museum and discover the fascinating history of this timeless place. And of course, how can you talk about Chartreuse without mentioning the famous green liqueur? Head to the distillery for a little tasting (in moderation, always) and a few anecdotes about this legendary drink so well-known and appreciated by the locals!

The Vercors Regional Nature Park: a sumptuous blend of cliffs and wide open spaces

Welcome to a wild paradise where towering cliffs meet lush green valleys! The Vercors Regional Nature Park is a life-size playground for thrill-seekers and breathtaking panoramas. Hikers, walkers and cyclists will all find something to suit them. One of the must-sees is the Gorges de la Bourne, a winding road offering spectacular views of the rock faces. And for an even more magical experience, head to the Grottes de Choranche, where you’ll see needle-thin stalactites and crystal-clear water. A truly timeless journey! When it comes to wildlife, keep your eyes peeled: the Vercors is home to chamois, ibex and even golden eagles. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, try the famous Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage, a cheese that’s well worth the taste test!

Walibi Rhône-Alpes: a day full of thrills and spills

Looking for a bit of adrenalin and some family fun? Head for Walibi Rhône-Alpes, a must-see theme park just half an hour from the campsite! There’s something for everyone, from dizzying rollercoasters to refreshing water attractions and live shows. Whether you’re the type to scream at the top of your lungs on the Mystic rollercoaster or prefer a leisurely stroll on the wild river, the park offers attractions that will satisfy the whole family without exception. If you’re feeling peckish, there are picnic areas and restaurants to recharge your batteries. You’re sure to fall for a cotton candy…

Lake Aiguebelette: A protected natural gem

Head for the Alps, a 40-minute drive away! If you love a peaceful spot in the countryside like Paladru, then Lac d’Aiguebelette is the place for you! This little paradise of emerald green waters is one of the most unspoilt lakes in France. Ideal for a refreshing swim (although its waters can reach 28 degrees in summer), a paddle or a lazy session on its shady shores. If you’re a keen walker and nature enthusiast, you can explore the lake’s surroundings or venture out on the water with the many water sports on offer. And for the more curious, the lake is home to mysterious stilt houses dating back to prehistoric times… A real archaeological treasure hidden beneath its crystal-clear waters!

Chambéry: the Savoyard capital with everything to please!

Fancy an urban getaway in the Alps? Head for Chambéry (1 hour away), a city as charming as it is unexpected. Combining cobbled streets, historic monuments and gourmet breaks, it’s a real local gem. Stroll through the old town and discover the traboules: typical hidden passageways revealing secret courtyards and colorful facades. Let us guide you to Place Saint-Léger, in the heart of the city. Among the must-see sights are : La Fontaine des Éléphants, Le Château des Ducs de Savoie and the Cathédrale Saint-François-de-Sales (yes, more culture, we can’t get enough of it!). To recover from these intense days, enjoy a “little” fondue, or for something sweet, try the Maison de Boigne’s Génépi-based chocolates (a very local specialty).

Aix-les-Bains: the Alpine Riviera between lake and well-being!

Located on the shores of the magnificent Lac du Bourget a few kilometers to the north, Aix-les-Bains is a true concentrate of the gentle way of life. Renowned for its thermal waters, lakeside walks and chic yet relaxed atmosphere, it’s the perfect place for those who love relaxation and nature. Because Aiguebelette isn’t the only jewel in the crown (although it is!), you’ll appreciate its deep blue reflections and calm. Whether on foot, by bike or with your hair blowing in the wind on a boat, every moment around this body of water is rejuvenating. Aix-les-Bains is otherwise known for its legendary thermal baths, dating back to Roman times (that’s a long time ago), and people come here to relax in the healing waters with their ever-present virtues! Head for the heights: you’ll catch a glimpse of Le Mont Revard, with its sumptuous view over the lake and its incredible palette of colors, or Le Belvédère de la Chambotte: ideal for a photo break against one of the region’s most beautiful panoramas.
